B&N Apothecary

B&N Apothecary is a black-owned small business specializing in and curating a range of hair and body products made by hand and with love. Acting as a social media manager and graphic designer, I was tasked with designing digital content, providing product photography for B&N’s range of products, and designing product labels that speak to the business’s brand.

Through patterns, I created a light tone with a fun motif that represented each of B&N Apothecary’s products. An example of this is the product “Mango & Avocado Body Butter,” where an illustration of a mango and the inside of an avocado was created, using vibrant colors for the two and putting them against a warm, vibrant background. In addition, I wanted to keep the rigid layout that was kept initially in B&N Apothecary's labeling but make it more transparent, legible, and bold to maintain a sense of accessibility.

Social Media Posts.

B&N's emphasis on social media was crucial to the success of the brand, this included highlighting classic and new products from B&N’s 2021 summer collection. The goal of social media posts is to provide information about a product through striking but minimal text, bold backgrounds, and minimal imagery.

By incorporating the imagery used in the labeling, each post was able to be minimalistic in order not to overwhelm the viewer. Ingredient posts are also added to inform buyers about what was in their buying products.

Photography.

Product photography was important for the brand. After all, how would someone buy a product if they couldn’t see what it is? A balance of “traditional” product photography and environmental photography is implemented to emphasize that B&N’s natural roots were fundamental to clarify. This combination of photography styles allows people to be introduced to the product in a traditional sense and understand why the product came to be and what inspired it.
